Why Hormone Health Is Important

Hormones are common knowledge but not many know why they are so important. In fact, they are important to our overall health. Without the right hormone levels, the body’s tissue, organs, and muscles can suffer severely. Their health and function depend on the messages hormones deliver to them.

If levels are too high or too low, minor to major health issues may begin to surface. For women, symptoms of bad hormone health usually begin in their mid to late 40’s. If left untreated, symptoms may quickly turn into illness.

Symptoms of Hormone Imbalance

Changes to the body naturally happen as we age. Because of this, many women do not recognize the symptoms of unhealthy hormone levels. But the body has ways of showing you something isn’t quite right. The most common symptoms include:

  • Headaches and migraines
  • Thinning hair
  • Irritability and mood swings
  • Depression
  • Hot flashes
  • Frequent unexplained fatigue
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Bloating
  • Heavy or irregular menstrual cycle
  • Vaginal dryness

Causes Low Hormone Imbalance in Women

At some point in their lives, all women will experience bouts of hormone imbalance. It will naturally occur during puberty, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. But it can also happen when certain conditions exist as well. Those conditions include:

  • Poor diet and lack of nutrition
  • Type 1 and 2 Diabetes
  • Obesity or being overweight
  • Over or underactive thyroid
  • Too much stress
  • Birth control medication
  • Exposure to dangerous toxins or pollutants
  • Gland Injuries or cancers
  • Allergic infections
  • Cushing’s Syndrome

What Do Imbalanced Hormones Effect

Hormones basically control how our tissues and organs function. So without a healthy hormone balance, other health risks and issues can begin to develop. Untreated low hormone levels have caused major illnesses and diseases such as heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes.  If too much or too little of your hormones are produced, it can send mixed messages to the body and severely alter your health.

Treatment

Conventional treatment usually includes birth control pills, thyroid medications, hormone replacement therapies, and insulin injections. Sadly, for most women suffering from hormonal disorders, relying on synthetic treatments such as these means that they will be dependent on prescription medication for the rest of their lives; otherwise, the symptoms will return. These medications only mask the symptoms, which means additional abnormalities may develop in other parts of the body as the disorder progresses. Furthermore, the prescription medications used to control the symptoms of hormonal imbalance put women at a higher risk of developing osteoporosis, cancer, anxiety, reproductive problems and having a stroke.

How We Approach Hormone Therapy

At Florida Health & Wellness Institute, we restore hormone balance and relieve the symptoms of this condition with Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT). The hormones we provide our patients are identical to the hormones found in the body. These bioidentical hormones differ greatly from the frequently used synthetic or bio-similar hormone replacement products that conventional medicine uses to treat hormonal imbalances. While the BHRT hormones do need to be processed to ensure they are effective for humans, the hormones used to create BHRT are derived from plants and animals; whereas, conventional medicine uses hormones that are synthetically created in the lab.

Dr. Jorge Peláez creates each of his patients a custom-designed treatment program. By taking the time to create unique treatment programs, Dr. Peláez ensures that the patient receives exactly what she needs to reach optimal health and wellness. At Florida Health & Wellness Institute, we use a variety of BHRT treatments. The goal of Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy and the other therapies that Dr. Peláez includes in a patient’s treatment program is to find and correct the root cause of the imbalance; thus, reducing (or eliminating) the symptoms commonly experienced by women whose hormones are out of balance.

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms of bad hormone health, you may have a hormonal imbalance.
